Namibia : NBC crippled
by strike
Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), workers across the country
went on strike on January 29. Employees declared a dispute a week
earlier after the broadcaster failed to pay them a six per cent
salary increase, which management agreed to last year.

this year
Zambian president Levy Mwanawasa announced on January 11 that Government
intends to put in place this year the board of directors for the
Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC). Read more

The changing
face of the SABC
A perceived lack of credibility is the biggest challenge facing the
SABC, says Kanyisiwe Mkonza, the newly appointed chairperson of the
public broadcaster's board, and she plans to tackle it head on. The
past few years have been very difficult for the SABC, she says. She

of live media coverage has been challenged in court. The Media
Institute moved to court after the deadline to
the Government by the Editor's Guild to lift the suspension elapsed. Read

free satellite TV launched
Southern Africa's newest free satellite TV , MSNBC Africa, was launched
in Johannesburg on January 21 st . The launch will see consumers
gaining access to 36 'exciting' channels - if they can afford buy
